If you’ve ever been in a car filled with bored kids, then you know how important it is to keep those kids busy so you can keep your eyes on the road. Even one bored kid needs something to do so you can stay undistracted. Here are some ideas to help you keep your sanity while your kids are happy and occupied on that road trip.

Video Games

We know that a lot of parents don’t like using video games to keep their kids occupied, but when you’re in heavy traffic, sometimes there isn’t a choice. We know because we’ve been there! We tend to like the games that aren’t so filled with insanely loud noises, although here’s where a good pair of headphones (for your kid, not you!) can come in handy.

If your kids are musically inclined, there are so many ways for them to get good music these days. A Spotify playlist just for them can keep them happy or even get them to fall asleep. A lot of kids find the backseat to be the perfect place to catch up on their sleep. There’s something about a car ride that’s so soothing. And don’t you love that feeling when you peek into the back seat and see them fast asleep?

Why do kids love to watch the same movies over and over? The adults in the family sometimes go a little stir crazy from the repetition, but not the kids. They want to see that same ending, and they even memorize their favorite lines so they can say them along with their favorite characters.

Board Games

Board games have been making a comeback, and maybe it’s one trend that started with adults and made its way to the kids, instead of the other way around. When the kids watch the adults play Scrabble, some of them start to think it’s cool. And that’s a good thing, right? One of our favorite games making a comeback is auto bingo. Sometimes you might not have a good cell phone signal, so it’s a good idea to have at least one board game handy.

Believe it or not, kids sometimes like to talk. And we believe in the lost art of a good conversation. The best way to talk to a kid sometimes is to be silly along with them. Asking too many questions can stress them out. Road trips are supposed to be fun and stress-free!

Speaking of a stress-free road trip, the team at Tom’s Bulldog Automotive wants you to have a happy, safe, stress-free road trip yourself.
